Certification and Measurement
In 2010, the Greater Montreal Running Circuit board of directors is proud to announce that our course certification project is completed for all of our road races over 5k.
Over its 28 years of existence, our Circuit has always taken the task of course measurement very seriously, using the Jones counter technique for more precision. This method is recognized by Athletics Canada and was used in our Circuit and other events in Quebec with M. André Paquette as measurer.
In July 2008, with the collaboration of the Quebec Track and Field Federation, the Endurance Circuit offered a one day session on the Jones counter technique for course measurement. This session was offered by M. Laurent Lacroix from Winnipeg to seven (7) participants.
In 2009, the board of directors took its course measurement a step further by having every event over 5k certified by Athletic Canadas. This means that all the paperwork was sent to Athletics Canada for approbation, after which a certification number was given for ten years and the name of the race will be posted on the official Athletics Canada course measurement website.
Considering the large number of road races being organized in the last few years, the Endurance Circuit wishes to be a leader in course measurement, an aspect so often overlooked by race organizers! Our wish is to lead the way for other organizations or circuits in Quebec. We hope that runners will appreciate the seriousness we take in course measurements — we think you deserve respect for all those long hours of training!
I invite you to visit the website www.coursemeasurement.ca to learn more about the method we use, known as the Jones Compteur technique. You will also be able to see the names of events with a certification number from Athletics Canada.
If you are a road race organizer and wish to follow our steps in course measurement and receive an accreditation number from Athletics Canada, you can contact us for the names of the measurers who attended our July 2008 session.
